Our inaugural conference was held at the University of Sunderland on 13-15 April 2011. This conference brought together researchers, archivists, filmmakers, producers, programmers and musicians to explore current developments in researching and interpreting the history of women’s activity in and around cinema in different parts of the world, from cinema’s beginnings to now.

We programmed 70 papers, 35 from the UK, 35 from overseas including: Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Greece, India, Iran, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, United States of America.
