The University of Kent (Sarah Turner) and Club des Femmes (Selina Robertson) are hosting the first ever feminist film wiki edit-a-thon at the ICA on Friday 25th July, and we would love you to be part of the team! Wiki edit-a-thons have been used by the Royal Society and the Women’s Art Library to correct Wikipedia’s gender imbalance in a convivial and collegial atmostphere.
Wikipedia has become a primary research source for students, and feminist cinema is woefully mis- or under-represented therein. We are aiming to increase the number of articles, the number of reputable citations, and the standard of writing to curate our own history in this very public forum.
The edit-a-thon will be followed by an ICA Salon (with speakers including Elizabeth Cowie, Lucy Reynolds and Campbell X), and a screening of Sheila McLaughlin’s legendary She Must Be Seeing Things, on a 16 mm print, with free tickets for wiki editors.
No wiki experience needed: we will have a wiki editor on the day to advise. Laptops or tablets (and JSTOR sign-ins) most helpful!
